First time at a "real" 1/8 mile track in the ST.... 8.7 @ 83mph on stock tires
crstjohn and I went to the 1/8 mile track in Barona this morning for test and tune. We were 2 of about 4 street cars that were there. Mostly just a bunch of old guys with racecars. This is the first time I've run my car since going from "stage 1" to "stage 3". The only other track I've run at was at Qualcomm stadium, which is basically a flat 1/8th mile portion of the parking lot at the Chargers stadium in San Diego. Traction there is TERRIBLE, and my best time being stage 1 tuned by Randy was only a 9.4 @77 with a 2.4X 60' time. I have no clue what the DA was any of the times I ran there, but I hear it is usually pretty good.
Fast forward to today, and I have all the "stage 3" bolt ons. I'm also tuned by @matt@pandamotorworks, which by default makes my car a racecar. When I ordered my tune I told Matt I wanted it to be conservative, since I drive my car daily about 100 miles a day. I needed something reliable, plus the ****ty CA gas doesn't help when running an aggressive tune.
I don't know anything about DA, all I know is that one of the track officials said it was 4000-4400 today. Somewhere in there. It was probably 90* outside but I can't remember. I'm still running stock F1's with 18k on them, but I aired them down to 25psi. My first pass of the day I bogged a bit off the line. I don't know what happened when I went into third. Maybe I missed the gear, maybe the clutch slipped. I swore I was in gear but just hit the rev limiter, so I let off and came up with a 9.709 @ 73mph. As dumb as this sounds, I was pleased with my ET considering how early down the track I let off the throttle from the third gear mishap. I knew that the car had ALOT more in it.
My next pass was much better. I felt pretty quick off the line, and didn't botch going into third. I guessed I probably ran a 9.2-9.3. I get my slip and I ran a 8.939 @ 82.4mph with a 2.16 60'. I was stoked because although I knew the car was certainly capable of the time, I didn't know if I would be able to achieve it as a driver with little experience on a "real" track.
They're pretty much letting crstjohn and I hotlap at this point, which was cool because I hear that doesn't happen often at Barona. We line up again, and I run 8.791 @82.8mph with a 2.09 60'. This is me:
We get several more runs in. My best ET of the day was 8.744 @83mph with a 2.08 60'.
I REALLY wanted to get a 1.9 60', but that just wasn't happening. I truly feel that with a little more practice and better conditions, I will be running between 8.5-8.6 at that track.
Working on getting a few slips up now...
***my wife took the pictures, hence the nail polish*** lol
