I've had my ST for more than two years right now but I always wondered why song name/artist don't show up while on Bluetooth mode.

Also, I was never able to make Sync App work. My local dealer told me that my ST doesn't support Sync App so I wonder whether there's a way to update the "firmware" and if so, how. If I go in the settings there is a field called Sync Applications but it says "No SYNC application installed" if I select it. If I go to Sync Settings and I then select Install on SYNC it looks for some kind of file on the USB device. Of course I have no idea where I can find those files. The phone is correctly connected through Bluetooth, in fact I can use voice commands to make calls.

The only reason why I am interested in that feature is because I know it automatically integrates with Spotify and I use that A LOT. I have a Nexus 5 updated to Android version 6.0.1 if it can help. Also I have the non-touch Sony system with GPS and voice commands.

Looks like you might have to do some debugging there yourself - try other music playing apps, and if possible, try a different phone.

For Sync App also, try a different app - for me, Pandora shows up, but I haven't tried using Sync Apps at all since I got Android Auto working on my unit

What year is the car? Sounds like an ST3?

Regarding updating firmware - the "official" mechanism would be listed in your manual. For 2016, we have to sign in to a WiFi network and enable auto-updates. Updates via a USB drive should also be possible.
