Extended side sun visors?

One of the most frustrating things about my ST3, is where Ford decided to be cheapskates. And the most dangerous personally for me, is the lack of coverage between the sun visor rotated to cover the driver window, and the B pillar. Today I was suddenly blinded as I came around a bend in the freeway and the sun came from behind the visor right into the gap between my prescription glasses and eyes.

Every modern car I've been in recently either has a strip of plastic that pulls out of the sunshade to extend it, or telescopes along the mounting shaft to cover the gap between the unextended sun visor and B pillar. The ST does not. I can bodge something up with straps or velcro and plastic, and there's some cheap things on the internet that might do the job.

But is there a Ford sun visor from another Focus or other model that will fit that has the extenders built in, or the whole thing extends when you pull on it?

Frankenbike break down and tint your windows 15% and no problems!!!

Sunglasses.

Plus, you live in LA.

I have sunglasses. The problem is the angle of the sun goes between the lenses and my face from the side, which is how it's blinding me. Can't get wraparounds because my prescription is too strong. Can't get laser kerototomy because my corneas are too thin and flat (can't get contacts for the same reason). Won't tint my windows, because some cops around here have a hard-on for that.

What I need is a visor that's like nearly every visor on a car made since around 2000. Hell, my wife's old '94 Grand Am had extendable visors. Her 2006 PT Cruiser has extendable visors. Lack of them on a car that costs $30K in the trim I bought it, is inexplicable.

I'd prefer not to restrict my entire peripheral vision when the remedy I'm looking for is a technology that's readily available on other cars. On nearly ALL other cars. I just want a freakin' extending sun visor that fits on the ST. It looks like I'll have to get out the sticky velcro and buy some black plastic. Are there no Fords with sun visors like I'm describing that I can just buy replacement visors for and stick on my car?

quit whinning. Geez. How old are you? It wasn't that long ago that extended side visors even existed. We got along fine. Man up and deal with it. I just don't see the issue here. Some people just HAVE to complain. Sorry if I sound harsh. But really.

You're not being harsh, you're being UNHELPFUL and rude. You're not adding to the conversation, you're not solving the problem, you don't have any new information or even useful information, you don't have suggestions on what model of car might have a plug and play extendable visor (maybe with some alteration to the mount). Some people who have no answers, and no solutions just HAVE to criticize other people looking for SOLUTIONS, because they don't have any solutions to offer but want to make themselves feel like they're important to the conversation, just to see themselves type, with no meaningful contribution whatsoever.

Not everyone is just like you, and I'm pretty sure that there's something you think is important to you, that wouldn't be important to me at all.

I'm not complaining just to complain. I'm complaining to find a workable, bolt on solution from a person who knows what they're talking about. I know what I want, have very few complaints about my ST, and would like to address something I find really annoying. I've had 12 cars since I got my driver's license in 1974, as well as 14 motorcycles in that time, have driven and ridden coast to coast 6 times, and have over a million miles on 4 wheels and 300,000+ on two wheels. I've ridden through snow storms, hail storms, hundreds of miles midwestern deluge, an F1 tornado, and nearly got hit by lightning riding through Texas. I expect to gear up and suffer the discomforts of the elements when I'm on two wheels, and I expect none of that when I'm in a car, particularly one that is new and modern in almost every other way.

So I posted in the hopes that someone who knows a lot about Fords, might know of a model with a similar sized visor that could be made to work. If it were a Chrysler, I know I could try the PT Cruiser visor, but I already know it won't fit properly in multiple ways. If there's something from another make that might work, I'll take a measuring tape out and investigate. I appreciate arrogant and sarcastic remarks if they're funny, but really you're just acting like a jerk in this case and turning a request for help into a personal attack.

Ok I'm interested in showing it anyway lol. So, the picture doesn't really do it justice. It does not stand out as much as this pic suggests. I really don't even notice it is there. in fact this pic makes it look sloppy and dirty, and it isn't.

I do have some pebble texture ABS I might use. I was thinking Velcro.

Checked out some other Foci today while I was getting my oil change and MFT update, and the visors don't slide. But on an Escape they do. I need to bring a tape measure next time to see if one of those will fit. On a C-Max they don't extend either.

What's the internal construction of the visor? Is it plastic outer skin and something like cardboard inside? Maybe I'll take the dremel and cut a slot in the end and slide that ABS inside.

I might stop by the dealer with a measuring tape this time to check out the Escape one and maybe see if any other models have them. Eyeballing it, it looks longer.

I may also check out how much it would cost to replace the visor if I choose to modify the stock one and it doesn't work out. The junkyard idea is an interesting one if I can find one that has a recent Focus visor. If it's cheap enough, I can cut it open to see what's inside.

I just went down to the plastics shop and looked for a piece of scrap 1/4" thick smoked plexiglas - which they gave to me for free. I cut it out on the bandsaw to match the curve in the upper rear corner of the window. I store it to the left of the seat, and whenever I get into a situation where the sun is in a position to shine in past the rear of the visor, I just push it up into the corner. Works great!

It's even reversible, so if I've got a passenger it'll work on that side, too.

old thread. my visors do telescope out from the hinge. I don't advise using them because when I found out they did this I had to try it, must have ripped the wires loose cause i blew fuses until I got it fixed at the dealer
