All,

There are so many threads out there about exhaust and it pains me to start yet another...but I am having a difficult time finding and answer to what I'm looking for.

I am sure that since most on this forum are enthusiasts, you must be aware of what the Fiat Abarth is.
Now, that is what I am looking for w/r/t exhaust. I nice tone that does not intrude into the interior, ie No Drone.

I believe that Remus most likely fits that bill, but at over a grand, that is pretty rich for an ST.
Any thoughts? I REALLY like the sound of the Abarth, but this car is a family hauler (or will be when I pick it up on Thursday).

TIA,

Mike

To be clear, #2 above...
I have a Focus ST.
I would like a mellow sounding exhaust and as an example of what I like, I am pointing others to the Fiat Abarth. The Abarth has what I consider to be the ideal exhaust note...it sounds great at idle...it sounds great when driving...it sounds great under acceleration.

If I had an Abarth and wanted it to sound like an Abarth, I would not come to a Focus ST Forum. (again, providing just a bit more clarity)
It seems that most exhausts (or perhaps just MANY exhausts) for the ST are over the top with regards to sound. It could be due to manufacturers building exhausts to a price point, and hence the exhaust invades the interior more than a high quality (and correspondingly high cost) system.

I would recommend the MBRP Exhaust listed above. I have it, and even with my JDL Catless down pipe there is very little drone in the cabin.

Windows up, 6th gear at 65mph on the high way the noise is almost non existent. But when you get on it you can hear it, I feel like it will be closest to what you are looking for.

Let's also look at the fact that the Fiat is a 1.6L engine while the ST is 2.0L. Just as a a 302 sounds a lot different than a 350, you have the same thing with 4 cylinders. My advice would be more Youtube vids, finding locals in your area having a meet so you can hear exhausts in person and to PM me with any questions or pricing requests!

Milltek. With a depo high flow cat there is no drone at all. When you're not under acceleration it sounds stock even on the freeway when you put your foot down the car comes to life. It's exactly what I was looking for and I think very close to what you are after. It was the only 3 inch exhaust I could find that had no drone. There may be others but I couldn't find any.

Well, I went with FRPP. Install was easy enough. A 3" might be more difficult, and not required for what I have planned for the car...which is at most a tune and fmic .
Though I do have a tiny bit of concern that I did not try the Milltek, if I had, I am sure that I would be saying the same thing about the Frpp.
I still hope to hear the milltek at some point.
But back to the FRPP.
It sounds very nice. It can be very subdued if you can go easy on the fun pedal, and it sounds great when on it.
It is not subtle the way that I drive, but neither is it obnoxious.

I was in the same boat "I'll just tune and FMIC the basics" and was also going FRPP but a last second what if, and hearing the milltek I was sold. I don't think either of these is a bad choice! Congrats on the FRPP!

Most of the exhausts will sound decent and won't drone as long as you leave the stock downpipe on it. As soon as you go aggressive with the Downpipe it's all out different on all of them. My MBRP exhaust didn't drone until I got the catless downpipe on.

FRPP would be my choice if i heard it before the milltek. Good choice.
