Driver side axle boot (closest to wheel) has a cut and is leaking grease everywhere. Just got a quote from ford (just an axle boot replacement) that when its all said and done its going to be around 450. Sounds absolutely ridiculous. Buddy just got both axles replaced for under 500 bucks at a different dealer.

Sorry I just wanted to rant because my pockets are going to be empty for the new few weeks.

So do it yourself? Don't have the ability then well you are stuck paying for someone to. What about a shop and not a dealer?

Cost of owning a car!
I'd love to but I just moved 3.5 hours away for college. Just sucks when ford dealers charge the **** out of you. I called another dealer and he was gonna charge me 800 bucks..... Are you kidding me lol. I don't need it back anytime soon, so I told them they can have it for a week if they want, just fix it. This car has cost me a solid 3k in the past month in suspension type repairs.

Doesnt Ford have a financing option for parts and labor? It's ridiculous how expensive things seem to be these days

What is the interest rate on that? might as well use a credit card. taking a loan out to fix your car that has a loan on it... ouch!

Again have you tried a shop? call around, the dealer isn't the only place that can fix it and most likely the most expensive!

I'll look around but i'm not sure whos good around here. I'd hate to bring it to a smaller shop and they **** something up. I've had friends go into lawsuits over things those shops have broken.

Dealer usually charges 120$ an hr. (at least round here) Shops usually run 95$ depending where you're at. I now have a manual i ordered online to do my own work.
If I were YOU, I'd shop online for the part (always cheaper) Bring it to whatever shop you want, and just pay for install fee. Best possible rout.
The reason for this is, I've seen the part with my own eyes and hands, now knowing in my head that it WILL fit. After someone else installs I check.

The Ford service card is zero interest if paid in six months. I was just throwing out a suggestion, not implying it was the only one.

Totally understand that

Every little bit helps when your strapped for cash. Don't forget to ask any questions, think of some on the way, if they cannot answer even one, turn tail and run.
For sure. I talked to the manager of the shop and he even said that they don't replace just the boot because they can't get all the dirt etc out of the axle anyways. (I've been driving it like this for a long while now).

Axle is only 145 from fordparts.com

Bringing it in next week.

OP do you have any kind of warranty left on your car? I had my front wheel bearings and a lower control arm replaced under my extended warranty. Only cost me the $100 deductible.
