Dear All

I purchased the 2016 ST1 (Cape Town, South Africa), in July 2016.

My car is being serviced by a Ford garage, but I don't think they even know the answers to some of the questions I put to them - hence me being on here....

My question: the 2016 Owner's Manual that came with my car says the the oil level must be as in Figure 2, but the manual for the 2016 Focus ST Supplement (which I got from the internet) says it must as in Figure 1. My dispstick looks like the one in Figure 1, and NOT Figure 2.

Ford seems to think it must be like the one in Figure 2, but I don't think so......what should it be?

Thanks very much.

It's figure 1. The oil should not be above the hash marks. The Focus ST takes 5.7 quarts of oil with the standard oil filter (Motorcraft FL-910s) though many folks who change their own oil switch to the Motorcraft FL-400s since it's a little larger and allows an even 6 quarts to fit without going over the hash marks.

Will ford deny engine warranty claims for using the FL-400?

No. It's the same filter as stock only with ~.3L more capacity

That's odd...are you sure about that? They technically aren't supposed to do something like that without being requested. I hope they gave you the appropriate 6L instead of 5.7L.

They told me before they did it, and they filled it with 6. It was a small town Ford dealer on a Saturday, the only FL-910 they had on the shelf was dented and they did not want to use it.

Ah okay, still probably not recommended, but if you were aware of it beforehand then who cares. It's the filter I would rather use instead of the 910 anyway so they did you a favor technically lol.

Thanks very much for your reply!! I only saw it now....I did not get any notification of it......:(:(:(

Been driving like this for 3 years now....Ford ALWAYS fills it to there!!! And I JUST came from a hard drive of about 300 miles yesterday....:oops::oops:

Soon after I bought the car, I demanded an answer from them (Ford) re this, and they got me to meet with a "Technical Specialist" who travels up and down the country, solving issues, amongst others, like this (or so I'm told...). This clever man told me that "as long as the level is on or below the top hole, I will be fine..." What the heck????

Car has been flying very well since purchase, though and doesn't use any oil....what should I do?

I have also been told by Ford (soon after purchase) that they enter the car's details into an oil dispenser machine/device, and this dispenses the CORRECT amount for one's car....for all cars they service.

I look forward to your response.

Thanks again.

6 qts for me Amsoil’s Sig Series 5w-30 w/ Amsoil’s Ea15K51 filter. Perfect fill every time and the assurance of knowing I’m using an oil with the best LSPI protection I can easily get my hands on. Along with Dual OCC’s.
