I found a small glob of grease on the bottom of the spring in the hole, could this mean my spring is the culprit? I also noticed a small amount of grease on this as well, should I be concerned?

All steering shafts come pre lubricated from factory/vendor. i wouldn't worry about that, i had the clicking noise from my clutch spring assembly until i swapped it out for the steeda clutch spring assist perch kit. don't waste your time with just the spring swap IMO. just buy the whole kit.
