Hi guys,

Currently building to "stage 3" and running the following mods

Roush intake & CBE
Steeda oil separator and sound symposer delete
Cobb Apv3 and RMM

I am 30 years old and the exhaust is sometimes to much attention when i want to just speed up through town. With the small turbo is a downpipe and exhaust really necessary ? I am thinking of selling the roush CBE and buying my intercooler, then getting a custom tune and calling it a day. Maybe Intake and throttle body spacers down the line. With the small turbo I do not see the noise vs performance benefit of a downpipe and exhaust, and it would help make the vehicle a little more sleepy.

tldr: what gains do a downpipe and cat back exhaust really give with such a small turbo aside from noise?

The downpipe should give some more usable power as long as your tuned for it. But it's mostly towards the top of the powerband. The addition of the exhaust won't add really any power, but will make the power delivery a little smoother.
The roush is a loud exhaust too.

I'll be going with a catless downpipe and stock cat back. I'm in the same boat as you. I don't want it to sound like pretty much anything I've heard on YouTube. Whenever Cobb finally gets the base files done for my ECU, I'll have my tune on finally and then I suppose I'll be "Stage 3" at that point.

If it's too loud for my taste, which I suspect it will be, I'll try to go with a quieter resonator than the stock one or add another somewhere in the line.
