So I just installed a Boomba BOV on my 2016 Focus ST. I've never had a turbo car so not sure on how everything should sound. I love the sound of the BOV but found that at WOT the BOV will release air. Is this normal?

Here is a link to a video I took real quick. You may need headphones. Basically I am in 6th Gear and trying to accelerate from 60-70ish. It sounds like sssssss at WOT and then pshhh when I lift off the gas. I know dropping to 5th may be faster but I am only trying to test the BOV. Seems like the boost is also only making it to about half way up the boost guage. What do you guys and gals think?

You're not making full boost and your aftermarket bov is leaking air.

You want to know if something is wrong?
Oh, I wasn't sure if this was full boost or not for 6th gear. Can anyone else confirm for sure?

I was reading this post that said boost is only hits the 3/4 mark in 3rd and 4th gear or something like that.

But if the venting at wide open throttle is not normal than maybe I should try taking it out and put it back in. Anyone have any other ideas? Sorry not that experienced with anything relating to turbo on a car.

Go back to the stock bpv and compare.

Not sure about your BOV issue but according to what I've seen around here, you probably shouldn't go WOT at such low RPM in a high gear.

Yea, I'm thinking I may need to do that. I'm going to try to see what kind of boost the car makes in 3rd and
4th gear also before swapping the original back in for testing. I really love the way the BOV sounds, it's a shame that I may have to do some troubleshooting.
Thanks for the heads up. I usually baby my car, so I'll make sure not to go WOT at that low of an RPM. Wasn't really thinking. Was just trying to build boost up.

It happens... You don't have a leak. And it wouldn't do it if your foot was all the way to the floor. My Veloster did it and my focus does it if I go to accelerate in 6th going 45-50 mph. Builds boost but releases when you barely stop giving it throttle.

Do a 4th gear pull at 35 mph up a hill. If the boost holds your fine

don't go WOT at low rpm in high gear, it puts a lot of stress on internal components and leads to greater likelihood of lspi.
Hi Allen, thanks for the reply.

I'm a little confused because I am pretty confident that my foot was totally to the floor. It starts venting air almost as soon as I put my foot down. I say almost, because from what I could tell, pretty much in any gear, when I go over a quarter boost on the guage it starts venting, unless I just blipped the trottle. When I would blip the throttle real quick it would seem to hold until I let off.

I'll try the 4th gear pull asap, which hopefully won't be too long with traffic and thunderstorms. When you say if the boost holds, should I just go off of the guage, the sound, or both?

FYI in case anyone is wondering I took off the tire today and took off the blow off valve to inspect it and then I found the problem. It wasn't the BOV at all. It was the dummy working on the car (myself)! So when swapping out the BPV to the BOV somehow one of the hoses coming off the solenoid was unplugged! In the picture it's the hose with the two green clamps on it. Notice one end isn't connected to anything lol. Found out where it went and now everything is working great. I was definitely lacking power with that hose disconnected!
