So I just swapped out my 2867 for a 2971 and now on my baseline tune I'm hearing an odd noise right when the turbo spools up. Sounds like something slipping or screeching.Never heard anything with the last turbo other than normal noises turbos make. If this is just a result of a bigger, big turbo and different compressor, etc, that's fine. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I should add that boost will hold at 23#. Other than a charge pipe blowing off because of a clamp, I've never had a boost leak.

I have added a couple WOT videos. You can hear the noise come on around 20psi.
Thanks for any help. If you can't see the videos let me know please.

I have this same noise almost. I wasn't sure if it was my oil cooler though. I'm debating removing the oil cooler next weekend to see if that was it

I changed to the open element filter that comes with the Cobb intake and did some more pulls today. I still get the "screeching" sound as well as a "flutter" sound....I have no clue.

Top one sounds like a boost leak, bottom one sounds like compressor surge.. Hope you figure it out, Id get under their and check to make sure everything is tight asap. Hold off from high boost pulls till you get it figured out. Send your tuner a log or email and I'm sure he can lead you in the right direction..

Lousy speakers on my laptop so I couldn't hear the "screech" but I did notice the flutter under boost. That sounds like this:

You might want to check your charge pipe connections for pinched areas. Make sure all none of the silicon elbows have been bent out of shape. The "screeching" sound you're hearing could possibly be a very tiny boost leak. Doing a boost leak test might be a good idea too.

Just checked my charge pipes. Even adjusted a couple that looked suspect. No kinks or bends that are any different than the last setup. I seriously just dropped the 2867 and bolted on the 2971. Absolutely no other changes were made. Same baseline tune as well. It's building boost where it should and holding on the top end. I find it hard to believe that this turbo is too big for the application since others run bigger turbos than mine. I don't know. I will just drive it easy until the next tune comes and see what happens.

Thanks for the information though. I've watched a dozen videos of our cars and different turbo "noise" issues. lol

It's a tial, but I don't think it's adjustable. It came with my charge pipes that I bought used with my GTX2867R

Well, I checked all connections from inlet to throttle body and didn't find anything. Turbo just makes that sound I guess. No clue. I never seemed like it was hurting anything. It was just different than my GTX2867 was. Glad mine wasn't the only one to make the sound. LOL

Good luck with yours!
