Met up with one of the Houston ST/RS Club guys this evening and his bone stock RS. The RS still has paper plates, but does have north of a 1000 miles on the odometer to ensure things are past the break in period. The ST is powered by a Garrett GTX2867R and tuned on 93 octane which makes 350ish whp and 360ish wtq on 24 pounds of boost; with the usual accompanying "stage three" bolt-ons. We both had four people in each car giving joy rides while we got in a few fun runs.

We had three runs from a second gear roll. In each run we would be side by side until he shifted at 6K while I continued to rev out to 7K, this is where I would creep ahead just a bit to end up about a full length ahead at the top of fourth gear.

There were two runs from a dig as well. As we all expect, the RS put two car lengths on me by the top of first gear. I did slowly reel him back in, getting to the rear bumper by the top of third before we'd shut them down.

Again, it was all in good fun and results were pretty much what was expected. In the coming weeks the RS will be tuned and we might get in a rematch before de-modding of the ST starts to make way for an RS of my own.

Here is a video of one of the runs from a roll:

had one of our members roll race stage 3 COBB OTS tune against a RS and the RS front bumper was at the passenger door of the ST.

Roll racing in these cars is a joke... just proving how slow they really are! they are built for racing on curves not on the straights!

Sooo, your selling all your go fast parts then?
Yes. After the Houston SCCA AutoX event on 10/2 I will start working on getting parts off the car. The ATP Turbo kit is already spoken for; most everything else will be posted to the Houston ST/RS Club facebook group for first dibs.

Had a tune only RS go head to head with a 2014 Coyote Mustang that also has a tune.

Not sure if I'd consider it a joke. While they aren't god in hatch-back form, they aren't exactly slow either.

Yeah the guy with the Focus is Thomas.
They were both a Focus :p. The ST was the camera car, the RS was the floating headlights in the night.

I guess... what one considers slow another considers fast. I don't consider the RS or a Stage 3 ST to be fast. I have a stage 3 ST and it's meh and it keeps up with the RS which I again feel is meh.

Not the point, these cars aren't built for roll racing. they are built for tight tracks, autoX or back twisting roads. That is where I consider them quick and capable. the RS even more so because of AWD

So how did that race go? Can't leave us hanging like that!

I lost 2 out of 3.

Some say they are upset because I ran all the races in 4th and 5th, where others would have wanted to start in 3rd. I'm happy with the result regardless.

Posted in a new thread to not take this one further OT.

Just for antidotical experience, my ST will keep a stock Coyote within a car length from a roll in third to the top of fifth. It has surprised more than a handful when they don't walk off on a Focus.

There's a Nitrous Blue RS in my area that makes me so damn jealous every time I see it. We've had a few stare downs when I'm in the daily but never anymore than that. I just want to see how much quicker one is from a dig versus my turd.

Kind of off topic of a Big Turbo ST vs an RS, but since someone brought up the Coyote Mustang - why not?

I pulled up next to a parked RS yesterday, pulled over immediately and started talking to the owner. He was raving about it. He said all these ST guys pull up next to him at stop lights and want to go head to head, and he just laughs. Clearly no reason for an RS to fear a stock ST, but you have to like the optimism of our fellow ST drivers.

We're in the LA area, and he said he had an interesting experience coming back into LA on the Grapevine. He pulled up behind a GTI, the GTI just took off, and there was no way he could catch him. He was convinced the GTI had some work done. Even if it was an R32 I can't imagine one of those pulling away from an RS like that.

Theres 500 hp R32s floating around. The V6 with a big turbo could make crazy hp to the wheels.

My 2003 GTI that I traded in for my ST was faster for sure but it was falling apart thus me deciding to not put more money in it.

A GTI with a OTS tune and a downpipe will walk an RS.

Not sure if facebook links work here, but here's two examples:

Tell me if those links don't work and I'll have the guy post them to youtube
