doesn't leaving the lid of the airbox off create more heat in the engine bay? Not something i really wanted to do. AEM dry filter does seem like a good buy, but if it doesnt offer any sound difference the only purpose of it is for re-usability
No people say that running with the lid off brings in more heat from the engine bay that is already there. I don't think it makes that much of a difference. And find it funny that people think a little shield really seals off the filter from the heat of the engine bay.

It really does. Just monitor your IATs with and without the lid.

Yeah it definitely does when not going very fast, but at speed its about the same. I just think a ~10 degree variance in IAT means diddly squat post turbo and IC. Its all that really matters. If my charge temps were at ambient I wouldn't care if my IATs were 1000 degrees.

Unless you upgrade your turbo, the only thing you want to get is the RS box and some type of filter. Best bang for buck period.
And even then, if you're running a Green filter that has no end on it, that's just as open. Or would you dispute that the end takes in more hot air than the front of the RS lid? I'd guess any difference between these two options is negligible at best. I'd throw out the RS box is probably a good option for folks that don't like the whole oiled filter (but I guess that's a separate debate for another thread, LOL)

Asside from the RS lid, is the box itself the same or different?
Because the whole box is $50. Someone on the RS forum said he'd sell me his lid for $25 shipped (because I told him I didn't need a whole box.)
Decisions decisions...

I think it was stated earlier in this thread (or I saw it somewhere else) that the box is the exact same and only the lid is different, but you can't purchase just the lid.

Do it. Bolts right up to the stock ST lower box. And as stated, you cant buy just the lid, although its not like 50$ is expensive either ......

I don't know maybe I'm missing something but doesn't the stock air cleaner flow more than enough air for our ST's? Don't the aftermarket air cleaners just add noise (and dust).

For me, I'm not taking any chances, I'm running the RS lid with the stock filter. If it's good enough for the 2.3 I think it's good enough for the 2.0. Just my .02

That's true...but I'd rather pay 25 for just the lid, than to pay an extra 25 for plastic that's going to sit in my garage lol
Only downside is, this guy isn't going to sell his lid until he gets the mishimoto intake, which doesn't ship out until February 22nd. So I probably wouldn't be seeing the RS lid until March 1st or later. So I'm wondering if I should just pay the 50 and have it next week ;)

if you can find a stock RS intake for cheap i feel that is the best bang for buck as it not only gives you the RS lid, but it gives you the elbow that connects to the box(which looks bigger but i might be wrong), and the RS tube(after the accordion piece) which is bigger than the stock ST tube
plus throw in a KN filter and you basically have every intake that's being sold for our cars

With a stock turbo, I don't personally think it is worth changing the intake...but if you're after sound, the Roush lid or the RS lid are the ones I like the best. I also prefer the stock filter, since it keeps dirt out of the motor. Oiled gauze filters like the Green or K&N do NOT filter nearly as well. Some don't want to hear this or believe it, but that doesn't make it untrue.

At $50, it is still the cheapest intake on the market.

why would you want something that says "RS" if you aren't actually driving one. Reminds me of seeing people buy the badges that say turbo and slapping them on their 94 civic with an autozone intake and a fart can
It actually has function though...and someone on here bought the RS box (which is nicer) and covered the RS logo with a Ford Performance logo. Looks sick, sounds nice, and isn't rice.
