So just looking at some more bolt on options for my ST3. What’s the consensus on doing the balance shift delete? Are there really any HP gains? My focus is a weekend warrior and probably won’t see the track. Curious if the noise and vibration is worth it. I thought the oil pan kit with the delete from Mountune for $270 doesn’t seem like a bad deal
For what you get.

And the second question is the Agency lightweight crankshaft and water pump pulleys for $200. Again some says the gains are minimal

Anybody have the parts installed ? I don’t know. Would 25hp be worth $470? Or 10hp??

My impression is that the BSD helps with the engine revving faster, not with outright HP.
Don't know about the pulleys, but I would imagine the same.

But aren’t they one in the same? It would spin faster because of the hp? Just seems like the same thing? Can’t put into words what my brain is seeing lol

That's a good question. That made me think of the impact of a lightweight flywheel - it too will make the engine rev faster, but it won't increase HP. Basically a lightweight flywheel or a BSD will reduce inertia, but engine torque will remain the same (hence HP will remain the same as well).
A more colorful example - imagine yourself rotating a big and heavy disk using a crank. You exert a maximum amount of power on the crank, and the disk spins. Now imagine that using the same crank you spin a lightweight disk. You would spin it up to speed faster, but the power you apply to the crank will be the same, and hence the "HP" hasn't changed, just how fast the disk took to reach its speed.

With that being said, although you won't gain HP, you should reduce acceleration time (provided that the tires have enough grip). I would hazard a guess that the change won't be very noticeable, though.

No wonder since installing a 6 Puck clutch with a lightweight flywheel, the car is like a go kart in the rain up to 3rd gear. Like a controlled go-kart :D. The wheels are spinning easily due to quicker acceleration.

Don’t get the lightweight pulleys, there have been ppl that have a lot of issues w them. Motor won’t rev past 4K **** like that

Have never heard of an issue with them Boomba use to make them. Knew a few people that ran them.

Most people couldnt get the Motor timed properly with the CAS. Which is an ecoboost issue, not a pulley issue. Which led to running issues. Which is a major reason behind Boomba no longer making them. Too difficult to install and bad press from incompetent installations.

I run a bsd and 8lbs lwfw. My current 2.3 build will be bsd, lwfw, and lw pulleys.

So would you recommend the BSD? And with the flywheel, do you notice faster acceleration? Faster revving?

BSD and LWFW hands down best investment when trying to squeeze every inch of power the car has left combine that with e30 in stock turbo and it’s a whole different monster. I’ve got some videos to back up this proof.

I want to hear more about the BSD paired with a lightweight fly wheel please. I have the lighter flywheel, just curious how the two pair together; see if i should be looking to do pull the balance shaft. Anyone care to post a video of the RPM with some free revving, light 3rd pull then clutch in to show rpms dropping/hanging, perhaps a down shift, aka just some real world examples. it would be much appreciated, I havent really seen much discussion of the two mods together

There is a YouTube video of two ST’s one with the delete. One without and they rev the motors up.

If you are talkign about the Wrench Every Day video, that is only the BSD. I am interested in the combination of two rev freeing mods together so i can compare it to just myself with only the lwfw.

I did lwfw first. Then balance shaft later. It was a very noticeable difference. Balance shafts are no joke, like 18 lbs of metal, mostly rotational.

Not for the faint though, lots of vibes. Especially if you have mounts. Really pushes the car into rattlebox territory.

Dont forget you need a new baffle, and will need 1 more quart of oil on fills. Which gives the bsd mod more benefits than just revs.

As far as a video, idk if i can get one anytime soon. Real busy, and dailying the Edge Sport currently.

Thanks, thats what i wanted to hear, especially since you did the fly wheel first. Yeah, i already have all three mounts swapped, which i dont think i even notice as extra NVH at this point. Makes me wonder how bad the vibrations actually are with the BSD then lol. So with the taller filter, you are fitting 7 quarts of oil now? No worries on the video, i know how life goes :)

Yep a full 7 quarts. Extends oil life a bit, and has helped keep my motor alive. Over 100k on her, with me being the nut behind the wheel. Thats no easy feat, lol

I think i have a vid in my build thread of a coffee in my cupholder at idle. Gives you an idea of the vibes.

BSD and yes, it's a mass of metal. I'm thinking at least 15 lbs. Aside from losing that weight and theoretically spinning the engine faster, oil capacity has increased.

I've had bad experiences with LW pulleys in previous custom turbo applications and have avoided them with my DD BT FoST.

BSD creates NVH, big time. Think a RMM but at least twice the vibrations.

Right. But only reference I’ve seen in regards to the speed of the revs being recorded
