Not sure if this is the best place to get advice but here goes I have 2015 focus st that i bought a few years ago for 15k with 98k miles now it has 125k miles looking back at it now it was an impulse buy being young and getting a car that you want but for the past few years there has been nothing but issues with the car like trans going out over heating issues I can go on and on with things that have gone wrong and I’m not sure if I should keep it still or sell it but if I sell it it’s not worth the amount that I want for it but at the same time I love the car it’s fun but financially does it make sense open to suggestions.

Well if you are not doing the repairs or most of the repairs yourself then this might not be the best car to own. There are cheaper to own cars out there that don't require the care or maintenance of a 6spd manual turbocharged beast lol. You have had this car for a couple years you do know what you have. If you aren't in love and are on a tight budget get a grandma car and save some bucks, playa.

It's also worth considering that if you sell your ST, whatever you purchase to replace it will likely come with it's own set of issues and deferred maintenance. At least the ST is not new to you anymore and you know some of its history.

As you can imagine, many people sell their car when they think it's going to start to become high maintenance and/or unreliable. If you are buying a used car, especially in the 100kmi and up range, understand that the seller is likely moving to another car to avoid having to deal with problems requiring repair or replacement of worn parts and components, and that will eventually be discovered by the next owner, as you can attest.

We've all been there. And all you can do is research and have a trusted mechanic perform an inspection to try to provide as much information on any prospective used car purchases.

It seems like you're gonna be in the hole if you end up selling your car no matter what, unless the cars payed off. If she's taking your paychecks (child support...lol) away from you as often as you say then you need to bite the bullet and get a beater my man. But if you are doing ALRIGHT with money then just nut up and get the car fixed. Id rather spend 3k on my st to keep it around than getting rid of it and buying a 3k beater with quadruple the miles and age. Like people have said above about getting in a beater that was someone else's headache is a high possibility. Hope you make it out of this rut and are able to come back or stick with us in the future homie! 🤘

Lots of good points here. I don't know your particular situation but I would always advise to take care of your finances first before taking care of your wants.
The ST is a fun car but its not worth living paycheck to paycheck over.

I don't know what I would do, its possible that you fixed the things that needed to be addressed and will have a relatively trouble free experience down the line. But considering the mileage, especially the fact that you don't know what its life was like for the first 100k miles you might just experience 'death by a thousand cuts' where all of the longterm wear items start needing attention. it can get expensive quickly. This is the reason why cars depreciate so badly.

Your options are going to be kind of limited by the used car market. In normal times your car would have been worth less than half of what you paid for it due to its mileage. As the market slowly corrects itself your car's current mileage will limit potential interest from buyers. It may be that the only way you can get the value out of it that you put in, is to drive it until the wheels drop off.

It all just depends. All cars have their unique set of problems and that even becomes more true when you a buy a car that's used. That being said, the cost of repairs and maintenance for lets say a 2014 Honda Civic should be less expensive that the cost of repairs and maintenance for the ST. But it's all subjective. If you own the ST and have the title, you should probably stick with it. Spending a couple grand on repairs for something you own is a lot cheaper than having a car note
