Dash cam is always a good idea. Especially with how people drive.

Dash cam. :big smile:
These are the ones I am looking at:If you go with dash cam let me know what the best one you found for that price point is...I honestly need to get one. There have been a lot of weird fender benders happening to my friends with people trying to screw them by lying about it.
https://www.amazon.com/Choices-2013...8-1-fkmr2&keywords=focus+st+massive+end+linksHey guys. I received $150 worth of gift cards to Amazon for Christmas and I am trying to figure out what to spend it on and was hoping you can help. See below for what I am considering.
1) Powered sub and new speakers. This would be more than $150, but I could use the GC's towards the cost. I find myself listening to podcasts more these days than music though, but I do miss having quality sound in my ride and I can install all my own stuff.
2) Dash cam. Roughly $75-$100 for a good one.
3) Other recommendations?
The one I linked does not have GPS. They do make one with. It is a different attachment that holds it onto the windshield.haha I don't want to log speed or GPS:crazy:
I gave up on upgrading my 14' system since it's too technical for me. You'd think being an IT professional I'd know a thing or two about electronics but I'm clueless about crossovers and Ohms and the like. If I had to pic from those 3 options I'd go with dashcam personallyhaha it looks like no one is suggesting I upgrade my car audio.
I used to be a car audio installer and since I don't have the sony system it isn't too bad. What I would want to install would run me about $400 or so which means $250 out of pocket. On the flip side I am strongly considering just installing the two 10 inch sub enclosure I already have and mono block amp. Then I would only need to upgrade the speakers. The downside is the subs would take up most of my trunk space.I gave up on upgrading my 14' system since it's too technical for me. We do have decent hatch space which I DEFINITELY use with my profession and hobbies (my hockey skates haven't left my hatch for about 3 months). Unfortunately I'm an audiophile though so if I ever DO venture into that with this car I'll spend wayyy too much money wayyy too quickly.I used to be a car audio installer and since I don't have the sony system it isn't too bad. $150 won't go very far toward upgrading your car audio unfortunately (though you did indicate in your OP that you'd supplement that). I have zero experience with the ST1 system, but I did recently upgrade my front speakers for my ST3. The speakers were ~$90 and the overall upgrade was a worthwhile one. I doubt you'd notice a lot of difference with podcasts no matter what you did to the system.haha it looks like no one is suggesting I upgrade my car audio.
I don't need a top of the line system. Especially since I have the ST1 system, almost anything is an upgrade. I understand a podcast would see almost zero difference, but music certainly would be fun to listen to again. As far as systems becoming a rabbit hole...I have been down that path before. I probably wouldn't go as far with this car (famous last words) and just stick with a 300 watt RMS 12inch hatchback powered sub by rockford fosgate, some middle of the road components for the front, and some decent 2-way speakers for the rear. I would be installing everything myself and keeping the stock stereo. $400 should get the job done.$150 won't go very far toward upgrading your car audio unfortunately (though you did indicate in your OP that you'd supplement that). I know the integration of the ST1 system isn't as deep as My Ford Touch, but it's a rabbit hole that will get expensive if you want a real difference. While the Sony systems aren't top tier, they aren't complete garbage either so it will take some money and effort to improve. That's why everyone is recommending dash cams![]()
