So I had a bit of a run-in with a new(-ish) SHO today. It wasn't so much a race and more of a exhibition but I was making a right onto a 4 lane highway with a SHO directly behind me. I made the right, staying in the right most lane and driving fairly normal (assumed it was just a regular Taurus SE honestly). The SHO, less than half a car length behind me (riding my ass hard), immediately moved into the left lane and started accelerating aggressively to do a flyby. I saw him and decided to put it down to see what it had. I was sitting right around 3500 in 2nd gear and hammered the throttle. To my surprise, despite a slight amount of wheel spin, I pulled a slight amount (a car length maybe?) on him all the way up to around 80 or so and had to start slowing down for traffic.

He passed me as we were slowing down and was surprised to see the SHO badge on the trunk lid. He made a left turn shortly after and threw him a thumbs up. I had just removed Torrie's tune a few days before too, due to weather, so I'm 100% stock.

How quick are these cars normally? I always assumed a SHO would put a beating on an ST.

If he was stock without the Performance Package they only run about bottom 14's around 100mph. The PP's run slightly faster, high 13's around 103-4mph.

The SHO has about a 100hp advantage, but a 1100lb disadvantage, and AWD eats up power with more loss.

But they go MUCH further with a tune than we can. There is more room to play with those twin turbo 3.5Ls.

Not surprising at all. If you had kept going past 80 is where you probably seem the true power of the SHO and he would have walked away. A lot of people don't realize that from 0-60/80 a lot of cars can keep up with each other when there is even a 100hp difference. To me i tend to think that higher HP will come into play at high highway speeds. I came from an lexus is350 (v6) and those cars can keep up with an isf (v8) and even beat it in short races (has to do with better gearing on the is350 at lower speeds), however from a roll lets say 40+ isf will decimate that car.

The ST is just as quick as my old 350 but the 350 had better pull after about 80. A 0-60 between them though, about the same to me. So yeah, nice representing against the SHO.

Stock not.the fastest
...but with a good tune they haul ass
