    2019 Jetta GLI

    https://www.roadandtrack.com/new-car...gen-jetta-gli/

Looks like there's a new contender out there. GTI engine in a Jetta, and it's got some nice features.

Hahaha! I questioned myself before I posted this, in fear of the Duece.

In all seriousness, I'm no VW lover, and the vanilla Jetta is gag- inducing, but this model, not so much.

If they would've made a trim with AWD, I would've strongly considered one. I don't think it's the ugliest thing around, but I won't be getting another FWD vehicle so I'm not even looking at it anymore. However, it's nice that VW is expanding their sedans.

It'd be a better, smaller, faster, sportwagen. I wonder if they'd consider it too much competion for the golf R.

Interesting move by VW...is this a move trying to compete with the likes of the Accord Sport and similarly classed sedans?

I'd say it's in a pretty good place. The GTI and Golf R both have very good mod support. Hell, an APR Stage 1 GTI dyno's 235/380 at the wheels...I don't see why they can't do the same with the GLI. While the GLI is a bit heavier and lacks some of the better materials features that the Golf has, I'd say it's a more attractive package overall. I really like the Audi S3...great potential, great price, great performance but I don't like the interior size and the bland styling. The Golf R; nice interior, roomier, but the outside styling is super conservative. The GLI looks nice on the outside and inside, I just wish they would've given it an AWD option but Duece is right, I think it would've competed with the Golf R too much.

I just am not a fan of the look of the Jetta's, even the GLI trim. It is extremely vanilla IMO.

VW has made GLIs off and on for a long time. It's a sedan offshoot of the GTI. I think they're nice. I also think the new Accord Sports are nice. But its a sedan and looks like almost any rental car out there after awhile.

I am somewhat impressed with the new GLI. It seems to be the best deal out there in a sport sedan for around $26k. 6sp manual✓ Turbo 4cyl that's highly tunable✓ LSD✓ Good factory brakes and handling✓ Build quality✓ Well equipped base model✓ Sporty looks ok maybe not so much......... My Sister has a 2017 Jetta 1.8 Sport and with a manual and loves it.
