    How-To: Cabin Air Filter Replacement

Found this on YouTube. Very thorough job (almost too thorough - lol) this guy did explaining everything and showing the best way to negotiate the tight quarters. The same guy (moomoo97) has several other useful Focus how-to's as well if you look him up on YouTube:

Pretty good video with some great tips. I feel like a noob. I have work on a lot of cars but I have never changed a cabin air filter.

I'm guessing a lot of cabin filters never get changed. It's a good thing to do once a year, especially if you or your passengers are sensitive to pollen and other particulates.

I changed mine yesterday after 30k miles. Was pretty dirty. I found some straw (not the drinking kind) in front of the filter. Did it without removing the fuse box. Though it would make it easier.

Wow, that was amazing. He managed to turn a 5 min job into almost half an hour. Cabin filters are commonly overlooked for regular maintenance. As they get dirty you will get less airflow to you HVAC system. If you live in an environment with dirty air you will need to change it more often. The digger trucks at work (they dig the holes for telephone poles) get new cabin filters every 4 months. This is an extreme example because they operate in an extremely dusty environment.

Our cabin air filter is a ***** to get to but it's still only a 5-10 minute job. Ford left no room in there to work, you have to twist the crap out of the filter to get it in/out. Why couldn't they just design it so you remove the glove box like a normal car?

I do my cabin air filters on a yearly basis. Sometimes, halfway through the year I'll pull them just to see how they're holding up.

I replaced mine today, a little over 10k on the odo and that thing was nasty dirty. I went to Advance, Auto Zone, and finally O'Reilly. The first two didn't even have it listed as a part so I tried have them cross reference it to no avail. O'Reillys had it listed and in stock. It's part number 24419, Wix filter.
