This is kind of my dilemma. I don't expect a miracle but i do want it to sound decent. Even if I went ahead and upgraded all speakers, and later decided to get a new head unit and sub, i could still use the speakers I buy this time around, correct? I've been looking at Infinity on crutchfield

Yes you can - that's what I did - I just upgraded the power with all JL Audio equipment (5 channel amplifier, crossover/processor), added a sub and kept the OEM head unit and the Infinity speakers. The Infinity speakers keep up just fine.

Correct. The speakers in the link can handle 90 Watts RMS. But I suspect they can handle 150 RMS easily with good clean power with the lows filtered out.like I said I ran the infinity reference which is the same company Harman kardon. They are rated at 60 RMS and I gave them 140 no problems. Stranded this was just using a multimeter and ohm's law calculation. I did not clamp the speaker terminal to get the actual amperage speaker was drawing. This is the formula I use.100 watts x 2 ohms=200.√ 200 is 14.14. so 14.14 volts ac equals 200 Watts RMS at 2 ohms.now you'll never actually see that much power do the box rise and other variables but thet gets you in the ballpark.this was all with a 40 Hertz test tone for the sub channel and 100 Hertz test tone for the four channels.
