Spare tire setup

    Hey guys,

I know this might sound a little silly but when I bought my ST from the dealer they had a checklist of all the stuff that was in the car, and its options. One that was listed was a full size spare tire and jack kit.

Driving home from Wisconsin (to mass) I went to throw a case of water in the truck and doesn't the floor of the trunk collapse!

Long story, previous owner took it out, dealership never noticed. They're going to reimburse me for the cost of a new spare and jack kit.

However, speaking to a local dealer, we can't agree on the setup of the spare. Ford in my neck of the woods says it's a full size spare but the jack doesn't mount on top on the little foam dish, but Google images says otherwise.

I just want my god damn trunk floor to not taco every time I put something in it.

Can anyone chime in with a picture of the stock st spare kit (I have an '18 if that helps)

I canít get a photo right now but what youíre seeing on google is correct. Itís a full size spare with the jack in the middle of the tire. The jack sits in a foam insert, and there is a small foam piece that sits on top of the tire after it is screwed down.

If you need a whole bottom piece picture I can do that this was just a quick underneath shot, I have some stuff I just need to move,.gimme an hour or so if you need a bigger more revealing photo. But it is a full size and I'm pretty sure the jack mounts in the styrofoam.

you can of course fit a full size wheel/tire back there...so if they are just giving you money, i would totally look for a single snowflake take off to run I fit an 18x8.5 255/35 in there in the winter and an 18x8 during the summer (i have brembo's so if i had a front flat, I'd have to rotate a rear wheel up to the front and then put the spare on the rear, so i just keep a proper 18 in the car full time.)

I thought about that 😂 but I think I'm just gonna get a steelie 17 and the foam cap with jack kit.

Any thoughts on just deleting the spare all together? Like the foam surround that has the amp and stuff? I'll still get the spare and keep it in my garage but just for trunk useability?

Yeah, it is essentially 30 some pounds worth of an anchor over your rear end taking up like 9" of height of perfectly usable space. If you typically dont venture far from home, I'd be ok without running a spare...same if you have some sort of roadside assistance plan.

Got it, ill get that foam out asap.

There is still a little dish area where the tire should sit, what do other people fill that up with? Or is the trunk deck strong enough? Right now mines pretty taco'd from having a case of water on it for a month haha
