    RS brakes install tips, review, and comparison.

    Alright so I installed RS brakes a month ago and this my take on them.
    If you need justification to upgrade read this.

    First of all I hated the stock brakes; wasn't a fan of the aggressive initial bite and they faded going down a mountain road on winter tires. So I put hawk HPS pads and they had less initial bite which was better for heal-toe at low speeds also a lot less brake dust and more braking power and less fade. I changed the HPS out though because of the squeal I tried everything bedding, greasing, nothing worked. Also my rotors were warped and it was very scary and unsafe on the highway. I knew I had to replace rotors so I planned to upgrade to the 13.1 rotors that meant I needed caliper brackets too.

    13.1 total cost: 320$
    - Brackets 2x25$
    - Rotors: 2x72$
    - Hawk ceramic pads: 123$

    RS total cost: 550$ (plus spacers)
    - Calipers: 2x180$
    - Rotors: 2x79
    - RS Pads: 135$
    - Brake line: 2x4$
    - Anti rattle springs: around 5$
    - Spacers: 5mm spacers.

    I knew I wanted to upgrade to 13.1 but for an extra 300$ it would be a one time upgrade, also aesthetics was a big factor as well. This upgrade doesn’t make any sense if you have 13.1 brakes and your rotors don’t need replacement. These are overkill for DD and autocross better put that money into proper tires and a differential first. And if you are a hardcore track guy look into other brake kits first because bigger isn’t always better. As you can see the cost of the parts individually is half the cost of the ford performance kit and you don’t have to get Blue. You also get weather seals unlike aftermarket BBK (I drive the car in rain and snow) and a warranty.

    Pros:
    - Can use any aftermarket rotor/pad option available for the RS.
    - Braking power. Got dizzy bedding them in.
    - Because of the added unsprung weight car was slightly more comfortable (I have Bilstein B14).
    - Less dust (half the dust of the stock pads).
    - Looks nice.
    - No squeal.
    - Very linear.

    Cons:
    - Either buy the calipers in blue or no colour like stock callipers.
    - Rotors and calipers are heavier.
    - Some parts took forever to come in.
    - Must use 18in winter wheels and tires.

    Install tips:
    - Raise the front of the car high so you can use a breaker bar and a torque wrench.
    - Compressing the stock caliper piston in makes it 10x easier to remove the anti-rattle spring.
    - Spray WD-40 in the vents of the old rotors and from the back as well
    - Spin the rotor when you hammer it from behind.
    - You have to cut the rotor shields, mine had a lip around the whole thing. I ended up getting 14.5 shield that don't have a lip but the sides still needed a trim (refer to ford performance instructions). CV6Z-2K004-E 14.5 shield.
    - Spacers are a must if you want to run stock wheels (5mm are enough), I got 5mm 5x108 hub-centric spacers from eBay.
    - Assemble the pads and anti-rattle spring on the caliper while it’s off the car.
    - Pry off the brake line clip from the bottom. Change the lines at the end to minimize fluid loss.
    - BRAKE FLUID BLEED IS A MUST, and you have to bleed the inside caliper bleed valve first then the outside valve.
    - New hardware is optional.
    -PREMIUM 18'' WHEELS WONT CLEAR THE BRAKES EVEN WITH 10MM SPACERS.

    -Brake Line: BRHF-154
    -Retainer spring: BKCF-26

    Sorry about the pictures. First post.
    I intend to do a 60-0 comparison test with a fellow ST owner once we both have time and it stops raining so much in here.
    It'll be on the same tires (Michelin PS4S)

    The RS brakes are nice. I would consider "Brake dust for days" to be a con too. I've been washing the wheels every week just to get rid of the red tint the brake dust gives them. Aftermarket pads should solve that, and I suppose if you are building the kit from scratch it would be a perfect time to put them in.

    There are two part numbers one is the nitrous blue and this one which is unpainted.
    The blue was also 6$ more I think. Blue on TS would have looked odd.

    I also noticed that you painted yours. How did you keep the Brembo logo ?

    Sorry, I was just posting a reference to the other thread that was doing that conversion. I haven't personally done any painting of calipers. I do know the stencils for the Brembo logo are widely available, so I am assuming whoever you are referencing just did that.
