All-New Ford Fiesta ST Debuts With Itty Bitty Turbo 3-Cylinder Engine

Feb 24, 2017 - 9:32 AM - by AutoGuide.com

The next-generation model of the ridiculously fun Ford Fiesta ST has debuted with a new engine.

The 2018 Ford Fiesta ST will now be powered by an all-new 1.5-liter EcoBoost three-cylinder with about 200 horsepower and 214 pound-feet of torque. This engine replaces the 1.6L four-cylinder motor in the old ST, and, although it is smaller, output increases by a bit.

This is the first time Ford’s three-cylinder motor has been used in a performance car, and it even has cylinder deactivation that will shut down one cylinder under light loads. The engine should help the hatch blast to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 6.7 seconds. As before, the Ford Fiesta ST will only be available with a six-speed manual.

The little hatch also gets three driving modes for the first time — Normal, Sport and Track — that change the engine response, throttle response, steering feel and response, stability control, and exhaust sound.

Ford Focus RS Wins AutoGuide.com 2017 Car of the Year Award

Dec 13, 2016 - 10:03 AM - by AutoGuide.com

Making their pick for the best new car this year, AutoGuide.com’s team of automotive experts is excited to announce the Ford Focus RS is the recipient of the outlet’s 2017 Car of the Year Award.

'The Ford Focus RS is available in North America for the first time ever, and it’s even better than we were expecting,' said AutoGuide Group Editorial Director Jonathan Yarkony. 'Its combination of hard-core performance in a practical package made it an undeniable choice for this year’s AutoGuide.com 2017 Car of the Year.

The Focus RS was pitted against some stiff competition, as AutoGuide’s team of editors evaluated the very best new models this year during five intensive days of back-to-back testing in Southern California.

In the end, after falling in love with the Focus RS’s drive, its impressive value sealed the deal.

Jamal Hameedi, Ford Performance Chief Engineer, said: 'It’s an honor to receive this top prize from AutoGuide.com. The success of Focus RS throughout 2016 is testament to the entire Ford team who put all of their energy into creating such a special car to capture the heart of any driving enthusiast.'

The RS builds on what drivers liked about the Focus ST and makes it truly hardcore. The biggest upgrades to the rally-inspired racer are that all-wheel-drive system and the 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder that provides an addictive 350 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. That engine is hooked up exclusively to a slick six-speed manual, and with power to all four wheels, drivers have maximum traction powering out of corners. On top

2017 Ford Focus RS: AutoGuide.com Car of the Year Contender

Dec 12, 2016 - 3:51 PM - by AutoGuide.com

AutoGuide.com gathered six of the most significant new cars for the 2017 model year for our annual Car of the Year evaluations. This year, our contenders are the Hyundai Elantra, BMW M2, Volkswagen Golf Alltrack, Kia Optima, 2017 Ford Focus RS and Chevrolet Cruze. There was no hard price cap on this year’s entrants, but we tried to make sure none of them were extravagantly priced. We will release a new video on each contender every day leading up to Dec. 13, when we announce our winner. Stay tuned for our Crossover/SUV of the Year and Truck of the Year series, which is also coming soon!

This is the first time the 2017 Ford Focus RS has been offered in North America, and the hot hatch has a lot of enthusiasts very excited. The car basically builds on what drivers liked about the Focus ST and makes it even more hardcore.

The biggest upgrades to the rally-inspired racer are the all-wheel-drive system and the 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder that provides a very healthy 350 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. Thatengine is hooked up exclusively to a slick six-speed manual sending power to all four wheels so drivers have maximum traction for powering out of corners and even drifting like the Ken Block proteges everyone aspires to be — the system can send up to 70 percent of the engine’s torque to the rear axle for maximum hoonage.
