Hard to tell anything by those pictures. You sure that's not just normal wear? My opinion leans towards that of Alex. Even if it did do some damage, that would be when one would get an aftermarket catted DP and then not worry any more. I have a stock DP with resonator delete and the stratified crackle-pop tune. I love the sound and I'm not sweating it.

I dont know if it is normal or not. I honestly didn't care that it did anything to the cat. It would make since that the pops and crackles would eventually damage it though since it is pressure spikes. It does warn on strats site that prolonged use isn't intended for the stock cat as it could cause damage. Mine was still working fine just wanted to go catless.

I figure I would have a few options if my cat failed due to damage:

    1. Find a stock DP on here.
    2. Hopefully I live in a state that is catless friendly by smog time.
    3. Buy a new DP from Ford or somewhere else.

It is a lot of fun having the pops and crackles and I know their are solutions.

Even on a straight-through muffler? I'm thinking of swapping out for a Magnaflow muffler in the midpipe, deleting the stock muffler, along w/ Depo 100cell catted DP.

I'm thinking with that setup the medium crackles would be totally safe, but the loud crackles could have an effect on the cat (and based on your comment, maybe even the muffler) over time. What do you think?

Straight-thru mufflers use fiberglass around the center pipe and it can lose effectiveness over time.

Yeah I'm sure they can break down over time I'm just trying to get @Alex@Stratified 's opinion on the effect of medium crackles vs. loud crackles on a straight-thru muffler and a high-flow 100cell catted downpipe.

My guess is, there's a decent chance that the loud crackles could damage that exhaust setup, and very little to no chance that medium crackles could damage that exhaust setup.

I'll let him answer for himself. I've had my loud pops with a stock system with resonator delete for a few months with no issues.

Straight through fiberglass packed mufflers do get blown out over time regardless of crackles or no crackles. I've gone through this experience on several platforms. The sound of the exhaust as a whole will change but like I said, this happened regardless of crackles.

I don't see any visible issues with this catalytic converter. I wouldn't worry about it if this is what you're seeing.
