Well the title of this thread says it all. Do most car enthusiasts know what is coming from behind? Or are they pretty much clueless to what we have going on under our hoods. I have had a few various VW drivers challenge me, but I didn't give into their demands. I guess I'll have to read the slaughter thread again.
Considering 99% of the people I pass probably have no clue what the Focus ST is, it is probably something of the sorts of me driving too fast or something.
I have had a few people at gas stations or other places say how they like it and asking what it is but for the most part it is just another compact car to most people. I have had like two people give me a thumbs up, but that is about it.
Hot Hatch enthusiasts will know. I haven't seen many...but have a sighting from time to time. I would wait if someone wanted to run their ST against me and see if they wanted to chat first...like a MS3 guy did the other day. He did a couple quick burst and drop back's. Then he asked what it does...I said mid 12's @ 112mph(12.8 is going down after it hits the track). He said nice stance...and that was it.
I was telling a coworker about my ST a few days ago. Today we got to talking about cars again and he was like, "Soo, you like your Escort?" And no, he was not attempting to joke with me. It's pretty clear that when I say I drive a Ford Focus ST, the only thing people hear is 'Focus'.
I had some dude in a 2006 Monte Carlo try to pull on me today after the stoplights. I took off normally, which I guess was faster than this dude liked, so he floors it and I hear his engine wind up - he's gaining on me. So I punch it and decide to let off about 100 feet in front of him. But what he thought he was doing, I guess, is he thought I was driving 'just a Focus' and wanted to toy with me.
So what do I think people see in the rearview mirror? I think they see a compact Ford with a carpmouth grille. And that's it.
People who know cars will look and acknowledge, others dont care despite me being BRIGHT YELLOW lol. My turbocharged 66 mustang with big intercooler turns more heads tho so I kinda like "blending in"...as much as a TS ST will!
Yeah, my white ST blends in pretty well. Doubt anyone notices me. I've gotten a few looks, i guess they know it isnt a normal focus at times, but they still dont know what it is.
And like another guy said, when I tell people i have a focus ST, they hear focus and stop listening. Now i just tell people i drive a focus. That's all they hear anyways.
To tell them you drive an ST. That's what I say. If they know what it is, they'll acknowledge it. If they don't, they'll just nod their head and carry on
My guess is that they think, dayumn.. That's a chick driving that car?!
Then their head follows the car as I pass them. I can't get enough of it. It's so fun
Okay I lied, I don't "race" my car, and I don't pass people unless they're driving ridiculously slow.

Men are men and men are slobs. We look at any hot girl driving, no matter what the vehicle or it's condition. But we do show slightly more interest when it's an attractive girl in an attractive car.
A lot of people on the island thinks my car is a subaru or something until they see the ford emblem and go "whoa!!! that's sick" then a thumbs up. A lot of the meet ups here are into vips, a lot of honda fans so I'm out of the loop when I go but a few do like the "st". People as me why this car and I tell them that I like being different even though Europe is really popular
Neighbor walked by my drive as I was washing the car and ask what kind of car it was I told him ford focus ST he said oh my daughter has a focus too. I said this one has 252 hp turbocharged he just looked at me and said in a focus? Most people have no clue what it is.
I get this same reaction. I drive for Uber sometimes and people are surprised when I tell them what it has. Then I'll show them what it can do. Scared this girl a little bit on Saturday, it was hilarious.
I had a guy ask about my car as I was filling up. I thought for sure I was going to get mugged and jacked... I later realized he just wanted to know about the ST.
I have had a WRX want to race so, he knew what it was. The other ST drivers around seem to know as well.
There were two Mustang GTs racing on the highway and they slowed down to 40mph forcing me to creep very close up behind. I don't think they knew why I wasn't getting as small as the other cars behind us.
When I bought this car I knew first hand it wouldn't get the notoriety it deserves. My 03 SRT was "just another neon" to everyone. Even when I put on the big turbo and large front mount it was just a funny SOUNDING Neon. It wasn't till I accelerated that it received head turns. Then again, it always made me smile because the older Corvette owners never knew what was about to hit em. I made it a point to toy with Vettes with dealer tags. There they are all proud of the their newest Vette and it turns out is slower than a "Neon."
Not a chance. I am pretty sure something was tweaked on the Raptor but there was no chance for me.
