A Ford Focus you say? I know it's hard to believe but with the 252 horsepower and with the 270 pound-feet of torque finding its way to the front wheel drive via a 6-speed transmission...this Ford Focus ST four-door hatchback delivers a real performance surprise behind the wheel.

The turbo charged, direct injected Ford Focus EcoBoost 2.0 liter engine will propel you to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds but can also speed you by most highway gas stations with 32 mpg. Not only does this little hot rod deliver performance, but the new Focus ST has some very nice styling features.

At first glance, the full-leather, six-way power Recaro racing seats lets you know that you are in for a performance driving adventure. Our test car featured the new Focus ST exclusive color of Tangerine Scream which reflects the exciting and energetic character of the Focus ST, but the other available colors - Performance Blue, Race Red and White - also indicate a car built for performance and meant to be seen on the road.


Ford Focus ST: Focus ST is powered by the 2.0-liter Ford EcoBoost engine coupled with superb driving dynamics featuring a chassis capable of exceeding the expectations of even the most demanding enthusiast.
Ford engineers added a special sound tube – called a sound symposer – to amplify the throaty frequencies enthusiasts crave in performance cars. Engineers worked to naturally amplify the specific lower range of engine frequencies found between 200 and 450 Hz that are most pleasing to performance enthusiasts through the use of a composite “paddle” that vibrates with intake air pulses. The only drawback to having this great racing sound accompanying your adrenalin rush is that it sounds the most exciting during acceleration and higher speeds. From the driver’s seat, owners will experience the new-developed Ford Sport Steering System. This variable ratio steering rack is designed to increase the agility of the Focus ST on winding roads yet still inspire the same high-speed confidence.

The unique system makes steering less sensitive when driving in a straight line, but increases the feel during cornering. Drivers can keep their hands firmly gripped on the steering wheel through tight hairpins, maximizing their control over the vehicle. It also has benefits in slow-speed situations such as tight parking maneuvers, with less input needed from the driver to direct the vehicle into the space.

However, even with all the sport steering technology, when you jump on this car the torque-right steering pull can be a little scary for you and especially your passengers. There is so much power that the best way to alleviate the extreme torque pull to the right is to let the power roll on evenly. Passing is a lot safer without that sudden torque pull right back into the car your passing. After a weeklong test drive all this became very manageable and was not as scary as the first hours behind the wheel.

Focus ST will offer unique 18-inch Y-spoke ST wheels, dual-zone climate control, Xenon headlights and leather appointments throughout the cabin. Its superior chassis rigidity aids the suspension in providing a firm, but quiet and controlled ride. The instrument cluster features ST-unique sport gauges with red needle pointers to monitor turbo boost, oil pressure and oil temperature levels.

The ST offers an array of tech features including: SYNC® with SYNC Services; SYNC with MyFord Touch®; Voice-activated Navigation System; Easy Fuel® capless fuel filter; Intelligent Access with push-button start; and MyKey®.

From the aggressive trapezoid front grill to the unique twin tail pipes centered in the back. The 2013 Ford Focus ST is all about fun...I think some fun body wrapped graphics could even highlight this high performance, eye catching street tuner.

Starting price is $23,700...our Focus ST test car was closer to $30,000.
