Things you will need.
8mm Allen Key. I made mine a stubby to get between the frame easier

2qts tranny fluid

Funnel with at least a 18" long tube 3/8 wide

a jack and a way to get tire off

1. jack car and remove drivers side tire

2. locate lower drain plug on tranny.

3. loosen that plug with 8mm allen and drain fluid. Loosen fill plug also just dont remove

4. after fluid has slowed to a trickle locate upper fill plug and remove. After you do so lower the jack to make the car sit level

5. after fluid has stopped draining install the lower drain plug.

6. Take funnel and feed it from the wheel well and insert tube into tranny fill hole.

7. at this point your ready to fill. it is very important that the car is level or the tranny will not take both qts. it will start to spill from the fill hole before the right amount is in there. take your oil and start to fill slowly.

8. after you have close to 2qts in the tranny it'll start to spill from the fill hole. at that point remove the funnel and install the fill plug.

Thats it.tighten both plugs and put your tire back on and live happy knowing Ford didnt put the wrong sh!t in. Also the recommended interval for the tranny is BS. It should be done at least every 30k at the longest

Good write up. Definitely the easiest way to fill up the trains with stuff laying around the house if you don't have a pump. Same way I did it.

Also if you don't want to shorten an Allen wrench you can do like I did and use an 8mm Allen socket and an 8mm box end wrench, works great especially if it's really tight. You can get some good leverage.

Keeps the allen straighter also, preventing twist and stripping forces. Brilliant!

Use a big drain pan. When I popped the drain plug, the oil sprayed onto the control arm mount and made a huge mess.
I removed my inner fender liner as well, made access a breeze. A regular L shaped 8'm Allen worked just fine for me, no need to cut it.

I switched to motul dctf yesterday from OEM. I had 32k and changed the fluid already at 20k with OEM. Before: upshifts were smooth, downshifts into 3rd, and even more in 2nd were difficult no matter the temperature. After (35 miles of driving): Upshifts feel similiar, maybe a little smoother, downshifts into 3rd feel better, and also slightly better into 2nd but still much room for improvement. Hoping shifts continue to improve with time and mileage.

Changed my gearbox oil today to the Motul Multi DCTF. 37.5k on the factory oil, and it was coffee colored. Drove around for a while and the shifts are noticeably smoother. My troublesome third gear feels night and day better. Will see how it goes with additional miles on the Motul oil.

About 100 miles on the Motul and shifts are still butter smooth. I have no idea how Ford could recommend a 100k change interval. It should be 20-30k max.

$50 for oil is nothing; do your car a favor and make the change. Maybe @Mueller Motorwerks could set up a group buy.

Even my car at 19K miles, the trans fluid came out a dark coffee brown color. Not that that's necessarily bad, but compared to the clear color of the Motul, I was surprised. I was expecting my trans fluid to look a little cleaner than it did.
