Get the m from cj poney parts if you do. You can get them at a nice price. I like them both but I need to hear them both in person before I drop money on them
i have the borla with a catless downpipe, it just seems to have more pops and gurgles that other systems, and when your driving it normal 90% of the time it sounds great and not too loud at all, but when you pin the throttle..... jeez its loud as hell, almost sounds like its straight piped, but for me thats okay, because i dont drive it around pinning the throttle all day long
The flowmaster sounds better than ANY exhaust. I couldn't get past the 2 1/4 piping. I went with a magnaflow and catless DP I love the sound. To me the borla and magnaflow sound very similar in person. I got a killer deal on my magnaflow that's why i got it instead of the borla.
With the price being so good on the flowmaster lol it's hard to choose and both at least in video sound good. I love that you can hear the turbo threw the exhaust with the flowmaster. Also did that steeda rmm do the trick?
I can't speak about other setups, but I have the Borla with a catted OCD V2 DP and it sounds real nice. At WOT it sounds about as good as a 4 banger could, but when you come home and cruise up your street it's silent with just some downshift gurgle.
BTW... If you search hard on yahoo and such you can find good deals on the Borla, maybe 100-120$$ less then what I paid when they were first released. It's worth your time if you want to keep costs down and save $$$$ for future mods.
It was between the flowmaster and borla for me too when I was looking. I liked the tips better on the borla but I got a really good deal on the flowmaster and the extra 300 bucks or so wasn't worth it with the borla. I've had it on for about 10k miles and I'm happy with it. It's really only loud when you want it to be and it's pretty quiet while cruising. The 2.25 vrs 2.5 inch pipe is a non issue for me...stock is 2" out of the resonator anyway. I don't think you could go wrong with either one, just depends on how much you feel like spending.
Is there info on the power gains for a stock ST? If there is little to no power gains I don't think its for me, I don't care for the sound. I just can't get used to the 4 cylinder sound through aftermarket exhaust after having v8's with flowmaster on them.
depends on the 4 banger.. my MS3 with resonator delete and a test pipe in place of the 2nd cat..
It's a shame we cant duplicate this sound on the ST. You would need unequal length headers to do it.. aftermarket UEL headers will be a tall order for our car :/
I'm in the same boat as you bud. I love when the exhaust gurgles and pops. MBRP and Cobb are 3". The FRPP/Borla sound amazing but are 2.5". Cobb offers a 15% military discount so I like them just off of principle. I didn't use it for my programmer but that's awesome of them to offer. I don't think the extra size will matter with the stock turbo but I plan on getting a bigger turbo in a few years so I may want the extra flow. Luckily the exhaust is down on my list for now so I can make a decision later. Lol, good luck man.
*Sorry I side-stepped the question a bit. Out of those 2 I would definitely choose borla.
I know I have never seen an st in my area and I daily mine. I kindia feel special though lol. Kindia like everyone knows what a mustang is but no one knows what an st is unless there a car nut like me lol. Then you get those people who say why did you get a focus or it's just a focus..... Then I either Attempt to tell them or give them a ride and their opinions change quickly. Anyway... That is one reason I'm going to a focus st meet in Harrisburg at cj poney parts. It's May 24th at 9:00 am if you would want to make the drive down. It would be nice to see a huge turn out for them. And there's free food.
Its all personal taste. Dont go by what we tell you sounds and looks good. You have to like it too. I would hate for you to shell out a chunk of money for an exhaust that everyone said to get. Then you don't like it.
Oh and with all that being said, I can make any kind of video you want almost to give you an example of the Flowmaster exhaust. The only kind of video I can't offer is the awesome GoPro angle positioned at the tips.
Well it would be very helpful to see a video of cold start and warm start and possibly a wot clip from inside and outside and drive by clip... Lol I hope that's not to much
Really want the Flowmaster but not keen at all on the tips - really want the infinity tips to stay. Does anyone know a shop who could or do produce a 'stock' looking infinity tip for the Flowmaster?
So the size and spacing of the Flowmaster pipes will allow the stock tips to be welded on without too much trouble you reckon? Did you investigate this yourself when your system fitted?
I know it is personal taste, but I just can't get into the Borla / Flowmaster exit tips - too Golf R for me lol.
I have not actually looked. But the Flowmaster has two pipes for the tips.
