It just feels like someone somewhere is really missing the mark on this, and that it could all be used to promote sales.

Sorry for jacking your build thread @TheAceFox .
Nah it's all good, it's relevant to my posts anyways and it promotes discussion and thus gets more people involved on here instead of me flaunting my money with shiny new parts. Please, keep this thread going!

For real though, I know too many people who have no idea Octane Academy even existed. Luckily my salesman at the dealer was in the loop (and a legit bro too btw) and told me about it while I was buying the car. It's such an awesome bargaining tool for the dealers to use if they mention that it comes free with the car when you buy it new. But regardless, I've been spreading nothing but good news about it to everybody and they're all super hyped. Managed to convince some of my friends to go as well later this year, so hopefully they enjoy it and have a good time.

I actually asked the OA guys why Ford Performance does the school and it is actually so people can learn to push their vehicles. They are PISSED that dealers aren't telling people about the schools. I was told "we spend millions making these cars awesome for people and then the dealer doesn't push how awesome they are and people don't use them right, we wanted to show people how awesome these cars are and how to use them" Now that's paraphrasing but it sounded like there was an effort to get the dealers on board and start telling more people about these classes. Most of the raptor owners on the f-150 forum didn't even know it exists either, and most of those guys are obsessed with their Raptors.

Somewhere out there, a lot of dealers are doing a huge disservice to thousands of FOST, FIST, Stang and Raptor owners by keeping their mouths shut about these schools.

I honestly think its half the dealer's fault and half Ford's fault. Have you seen any marketing push at all for the RS, let alone the ST? All they care about is selling a bunch of F150's and crossovers to housewives. As for the Mustang, it's a guaranteed sale, it's a Mustang, the car sells itself. Ford does no marketing at all for these cars, let alone mention anything about OA or any other driving school they do. So if Ford doesn't push it, the dealer won't push it. They either find out secondhand from the internet or they find out from people who actually buy the car themselves. But no, I absolutely agree with you. Ford Performance spends millions of dollars doing R&D on these cars, then they have to price it out to be competitive and affordable, and THEN push it past all the suits with the bean counters. The sheer fact that the RS, ST, GT, and GT350 even exist is a miracle in itself. So yeah, I get why the instructors at OA are pissed. They've got these awesome cars and they're ready to push you to the limits but nobody knows about it.

Meanwhile Vapey McDoucheface just bought a WRX because Subaru knows how to market the car and he doesn't know the ST is an option, let alone a REALLY GOOD option.

I got a little flyer and letter in the mail about the Octane Academy last week, about 2 months after I purchased my car, I had no clue it was actually free until I read into it. I'm gonna try to make it out there by the end of summer and drag a friend with me, my wife has no interest in going. Seriously Ford and the dealers need to do a better job pushing the OA, I told my friend about it who is on his 4th Subaru and he was blown away that its free.

I agree with all of this. I am still super surprised the ST, RS, and Raptor even exist. The general population doesn't even know what they are or what they are capable of. I have seen 1 or two commercials featuring the Raptor (briefly) and 1 commercial where the RS was shown (once again briefly as part of the over all add). I found out about the ST when car shopping on a Subaru forum where a member on here owns a Subaru and an ST and he turned me onto the ST instead.

For years Ford didn't build cool cars and sent the cool cars to Europe. Then they FINALLY brought the awesome stuff here and its like it is a secret. Start marketing that stuff man! Stop only pushing crossovers, hybrids and fighting the "I have the best truck segment". Be bold, be different, appeal to other segments too. They have a dozen adds running for their run of the mill cars. This is like showing someone a football signed by a punter and forgetting to mention you also have signings from Joe Montana, Tom Brady, Jerry Rice, etc.

Point in case. I'm sure if your Subaru friend had known about it, he would've been more inclined to consider an ST or RS. But yeah man, enjoy it! You're gonna have a blast.

Absolute agree with you on this. For the longest time I've been a HUGE fan of European Ford. Started out with the Sierra Cosworth RS500, then the RS200 Group B rally car, the super crazy Escort Cosworth RS and the list goes on. European Ford got the best of all the cars, just like Japan kept all the good stuff to themselves in the 90's (Skylines, Type-R Hondas, S-Chassis with a turbo, ect...) and for us in America it was forbidden fruit. They gave us watered down cars because they didn't think we'd like their offerings, cause us Americans are "torque hungry" for V8's. It's gotten so bad that when I was shopping for cars I had forgotten the ST even existed. You just never saw them around or heard anything about them. It was always Evos and STIs. I do think the RS has given us some resurgence in that a lot of people are disappointed to find dealers asking 20k markup for an RS and so they "settle" for an ST but still, that's a decent chunk of the market who has no idea of the OA, or let alone the offerings from Ford. Made the full circle back around to the route issue of all this, hah.

Never seen an ad for the RS and I didn't know it existed until my dealer mentioned selling me one in a few years, then I looked into it and started reading about it here. I had one of the most fun weeks of my life in a beautiful, safe and friendly place while learning how to hoon my car a bit. There literally wasn't a bad thing that happened all week besides getting a bad breakfast from the hotel the first night.
